§ Tap-to-Phone

Your Android is the card terminal.

Accept Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, and Google Pay tap-to-pay payments straight on your phone. No reader to buy, no terminal to ship, no monthly fee. From the first sale of the day to the last, the money lands in your Wam wallet the second it settles.

§01 · Setup

From download to first sale: three steps.

Five minutes if you already have a Wam business account. About ten if you don’t.

01

Download the Wam Business app

On any Android with NFC. Sign in or open a business account in about 5 minutes if you don't have one.

02

Tap "Accept payment"

Enter the amount in TTD or USD. The app shows a giant tap-target on the back of your phone. That's the NFC reader.

03

Customer taps their card

Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, contactless watch. Approved in seconds. Receipt by SMS or QR. Money in your Wam wallet instantly.

§03 · Security

PCI Level 1. Nothing stored on the phone.

  • Card data never touches your device's storage. It is encrypted and passed straight to our PCI Level 1 processor (Cybersource)
  • EMV contactless cryptography (the same protocol as a hardware terminal)
  • Biometric login + PIN to launch the merchant app
  • Lost or stolen phone? Sign in elsewhere and revoke the device in one tap

§04 · Offline + sync

Works when the WiFi doesn't.

  • POS continues to run on a flaky connection: orders, receipts, and shift state all queue locally
  • Tap payments require connectivity for authorization (any card terminal does); we surface a clear retry when offline
  • When connectivity comes back, queued sales reconcile in the dashboard automatically
  • Daily Z-reports and X-reports stored locally even on a dead network

§05 · Payouts

In your wallet, the second it settles.

  • Funds land in your Wam business wallet the moment the transaction authorizes
  • Withdraw to a TTD bank, a USD account, EUR IBAN, or UK sort code at any time
  • Per-employee tip jars: tips attribute to the cashier who rang the sale
  • Daily, weekly, or on-demand payout schedules

§07 · vs Square / Stripe / your bank

No hardware. That’s the difference.

Square and Stripe ship the same flat per-tap rate, but you still need their hardware. Your bank ships hardware but a 1990s fee schedule. We ship neither.

§08 · FAQ

The questions merchants ask first.

What phones work with Tap-to-Phone?

Any Android device with NFC and Android 11 or later (most phones from 2020 onwards). The customer's card or phone needs to be NFC-contactless, which is the default on every Visa, Mastercard, and Amex issued in the past 5 years. iPhone support is rolling out as Apple opens up NFC payments. Currently iOS merchants can issue payment links and accept Wam-to-Wam taps.

Do I need to buy a card reader?

No. Your phone IS the reader. The customer holds their card or phone to the back of yours (where the NFC antenna lives) and the transaction goes through. No Square dock, no Stripe terminal, no Bluetooth pairing.

Is it PCI compliant?

Yes. The merchant app uses PCI MPoC (Mobile Payments on COTS) certified architecture. Card data is encrypted at the moment of tap and passed straight to Cybersource (PCI Level 1), never written to disk on your phone. You inherit our PCI scope; you don't have your own.

How fast do I get the money?

The funds land in your Wam business wallet the moment the transaction authorizes, typically under 2 seconds. From there you can spend with your Wam Visa, pay suppliers, run payroll, or withdraw to a bank. Withdrawal to an external account follows standard rails (instant to same-day for TTD, T+1 for USD/EUR/GBP).

What if the network goes down mid-shift?

Card authorizations require network connectivity. That's true of every card terminal in the world. The Wam POS continues to run for everything else (cash sales, orders, table management, receipts, shift reports) and queues anything that needs to sync. When the network's back, queued sales reconcile in the dashboard automatically.

Can my staff take payments from their own phones?

Yes. Add unlimited staff to your business. Each cashier logs into their own till on their own device. Voids, refunds, tip jars, and shift reports all attribute to the user who actioned them. The owner sees the consolidated view in the dashboard.

What's the per-transaction limit?

There's a $10,000 USD ceiling on a single contactless tap per the card networks (your customer's card may have a lower contactless limit, typically $200-$500 depending on issuer). For larger amounts, the Wam POS falls back to a QR-code checkout flow that the customer completes in their banking app or Wam.

What does it cost?

A flat 3.0% + TT$1.50 per card transaction. No monthly fee, no terminal cost, no PCI fee, no chargeback minimum, no volume commitment. Same rate on your first tap as on your ten-thousandth. Full breakdown on the pricing page.

Is this just for Trinidad & Tobago?

Tap-to-Phone is live across the Caribbean wherever Wam for Business is supported. See the coverage page for which features are GA in your country today.

Your next customer’s tap. Without the terminal.

Open a Wam business account in about 5 minutes. Download the app. Start accepting. That’s it.
